Specifically, "Harp Services of Grace Jordan" provide unique and diverse, live harp
(lyre / Davidic kinnor), flute and bowed psaltery indoor and outdoor performances. Grace is a lecturer and psalmist who often sings her psalms while playing the kinnor by inspiration; however, she must play the bowed psaltery, flute, recorders and sax by reading music. Currently, she is enjoying her new Bowed Psaltery, and is also studying VIOLIN on her own and will be updating this site's name much later on with a more fitting name...
Grace is thrilled to announce her new 2011 event, " PSALMS EXTRAVAGANZA ! "
It consists of a Lecture - Performance about the Book of Psalms.
Historical Overview will be taught concerning The Psalms and King David, followed by Reading & Singing the Psalms with the Davidic Harp, Bowed Psaltery, and Flute. She
will be wearing a lavish, aqua and gold brocade biblical costume she has designed and sewn... Various ancient-looking props, along with her Israeli art as backdrops to come later on, and hopefully, more exotic, 'ancient' instruments!

She hopes to add one or two new instruments a year if she can, such as cello, oud, dumbeks, and exotic flutes, etc., and would love to add some Spanish Classical guitar music, Early Period pieces, and her favorite Latin love songs on guitar which she now either sings or plays on flute.
She has been offering uniquely designed lecture programs with the Harp, Flute and Bowed Psaltery for regular bookings, special events, holiday & High Holy Days Musical Events. Ask her about her special Sacred Christian & Jewish Music Repertoire and Interactive Educational / Cultural Programs, plus her Period Musical Favorites on flute from the 1930's, 40's 50's, 60's... Kindly also consider booking her at your local sanctuary for various religious purposes, Biblical plays or performances reminiscent of the Holy Land in costumes which she has designed and sewn herself. For example, to have her perform at a Purim Celebration dressed as Esther, replete in a bejeweled veil and caftan while playing her Davidic harp for ambiance, or playing traditional Jewish music on flute, violin, or the bowed psaltery would be a nice change. In the future, she will also be playing other exotic instruments from the Holy Land.
Unless otherwise requested, for typical performances she dresses in semi-formal attire, even for regular day bookings to give audiences a special festive air. Harps seem to require a touch of elegance!
DISCUSSION of INSTRUMENTS:
The Harp
Her 10-string Davidic harp in Hebrew is called the Kinnor, and is the kind King David used to drive off evil spirits from King Saul. It was also used by Temple musicians. Sometimes it is called the Lyre, whose music has been used for millennia for inner restoration, deliverance and healing, in addition to entertainment. Therefore, she can be booked for human, and even sickly pet needs... She looks forward to selling kinnor, flute, bowed psaltery, and violin music CD recordings in the future on this site and possibly at your favorite store. She hopes you will enjoy them, in addition to listening to her singing her psalms.
The Bowed Psaltery
To quote what Grace instructs in her Lecture-Performance, “Psalms Extravaganza!”:
“The Psaltery shares an ancient past listed in many Scriptures, i.e., The Psalms, along with the harp, lyre and flute. Thus in biblical times it fell into the category of harps, as it was a plucked instrument. It is highly likely that it had originated in ancient Persia as part of the zither family, then made its way to Greece, Israel, and other parts of the ancient world. Then, it made its way into Spain and the rest of Europe, most likely via the Byzantines, the Moors, and the Crusaders much like the oud probably had, which became known as the lute in Europe, with some adaptations later. The Jews, too, might have brought such instruments with them as they traveled in early days.
The psaltery’s descendants include other harp-like affairs, the zither, hammered dulcimer, harpsichord and the bowed psaltery.
Both types of psalteries, plucked and bowed, were very popular in Medieval and Renaissance art, with angels playing them along with various harps, recorders and lutes (modified ouds). It was probably during these somewhat overlapping periods, especially the latter, that the bowed psaltery came into being.
Thanks to its continued usage in Great Britain and in Appalachia, the bowed psaltery has survived and is going through a pleasant revival in Renaissance, Baroque, and Celtic circles today.
It has a pleasant violin-sounding quality with a drone effect, and can be played with either one or two bows. Harmonies can be played holding two bows, while tremelo, staccato, and a 'cello' bow techniques are also possible. When using the glissando technique, it produces a type of bagpipe sound. Rounds are particularly beautiful because they are played on two psalteries at the same time, whereby the second player begins playing a few measures into a composition which the fist player had begun earlier. ”
Her adding the bowed psaltery complements her all- round interests in ancient and early history and cultures ( See “Other Services / Credentials”: Doctoral Degree Interests, & " Biography / Image Gallery": Artist's Discussions, Parts 1 & 2 ). It should add a special ambiance to her performances because it just seems to go hand-in-hand with her lyre/kinnor, flute and oud. She will be adding recorders and some ancient-style Middle Eastern flutes, too.
PERFORMANCE & LECTURE SPECIFICS:
" HARP SERVICES of GRACE JORDAN " is focused on providing high-quality
live harp (kinnor / lyre), flute and bowed psaltery performances with client satisfaction. As a result, a high percentage of her business is from repeat customers and referrals for
secular and sacred events, and private performances. "Harp Services of Grace Jordan" will do everything it can to meet your expectations.
* Furthermore, last minute arrangements are also considered for both indoor /outdoor
functions in case previously scheduled performers were to cancel without notice. She would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust.
Fees: The basic fee is typically $100 per hour for Short Lecture and / or Short Musical Services, or by a pre-arranged flat fee for an event per discussion, plus a small fee for gas /transportation / load up - tear down time, which is usually $5 for places locally under 10 miles, and up to $20 if farther away. (Example: She would need to arrive at least an hour and a half before the performance to set up near an electrical outlet of which the smaller fee covers that, verses her charging another full $100 or more from that time onward till the actual performance and tear down are completed, which is a special blessing to clients.)
* However, because of the magnitude of effort and time involved, especially with additional pieces of equipment, prices may vary in 2011-2012. She recommends prospective clients discuss hiring fee arrangements with her and any concerns about costs and their own financial limitations.
Clients may begin booking events from 3:00 P.M. or 4:00 P.M., onward, NOT mornings or early afternoons. And they should please allow for a large block of time of a several hours without interruption, from arrival to departure, without altering arrangements or having to rush her to get the following event in before she has left.
Conversely, for Longer Services, and for Lectures, Presentations & Performances, additional time slots of 4 - 5 hours will have to be booked and prices will be increased and adjusted.
Additionally, Lectures of Various Lengths can be booked individually, with or without music performances, and vice versa. Furthermore, clients and Grace enjoy designing special programs to their liking. Grace, however, reserves the right as a professional judgment prior to or during the actual lectures and / or performances for any reason or condition to alter the number or type of musical selections, data or instruments for maximum viability without notice. Not to mention, hiring clients may not be reachable or present. It is the clients' responsibility, of course, to visit this site as urged on calls or emails prior to hiring Grace to best comprehend the nature of this harp, other optional instruments, and all such requirements on this site, so there is no confusion, and so payments will be made, regardless. Likewise, their substitutes and facility personnel need to be fully informed.
